Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) shares are indicated higher Wednesday following reports the company and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL) may be jointly testing a TD-LTE network.
According to WirelessWeek, the goal of the testing is to make Clearwire's planned TD-LTE network in the U.S. interoperable with its TD-LTE network in Asia.
WirelessWeek also noted: "If successful, the effort will expand the potential number of users for the technology and improve economies of scale. This in turn will help lower prices for network gear and handsets, making the technology more attractive to other operators with unpaired spectrum holdings in 2.3-2.7 GHz and some other bands."
Tests will begin in Beijing this year, and joint test platforms will be open to device interoperability testing by several key participants later in 2012.
Shares of Clearwire are up about 1.2 percent early.
