Ford (F) CEO Mulally Says He Probably Won't Stay Forever, But Has No Time Line

January 11, 2012 4:59 PM EST
Earlier this week, reports suggested Ford (NYSE: F) CFO Lewis Booth would be stepping aside to allow the further grooming of a successor to Alan Mulally.

While a confirmation from Ford has yet to surface, Fox Business Network (FBN) recently spoke with Mulally about his future plans and retirement. The following is a summary of the interview:
  • He and Executive Chairman Bill Ford recently talked about Mullally's future, and no timeline was given for his retirement.

  • Bill Ford wants Mulally to stay forever, which Mulally said he probably won't. Note the use of "probably."

  • He affirmed Asia-specific ops won't report a profit due to Thai flooding, but admitted this is a smaller part of operations.

  • Mulally expects Ford to exceed last year's profit targets on total profit and free cash flow.

  • Ford tries to match production with demand, and the company is currently just about right on. Should demand slow, so will production, and vice-versa.

  • Ford isn't chasing market share.
