Needham & Company reiterates a 'Buy' on Vivus (NASDAQ: VVUS) price target of $15.00.
Needham analyst says, "Regulatory decisions are pending for both Qnexa (obesity; PDUFA Apr 17) and Avanafil (erectile dysfunction; PDUFA Apr 29). An FDA Advisory Committee is expected to review the narrow label Qnexa application on Feb 22 (contraindication for women of child bearing potential). We are favorably inclined towards approval of Qnexa with a restricted label, but more cautious around a possible expansion to a broad label in the future. Initial FORTRESS data, which assessed topiramate risk for birth defects, pointed to a mean increased risk of oral cleft as high as 5.4x. The FORTRESS findings are generally consistent with other similar analyses of topiramate, although do not represent an ideal scenario. We expect Avanafil to be approved by the FDA in April."
