Barclays maintains an 'Equalweight' on Hudson City Bancorp (NASDAQ: HCBK) price target of $8.00.
Barclays analyst says, "On Friday, HCBK announced that it will incur an $0.89/share charge in 4Q11 for the prepayment of $4.3B borrowings. Despite the charge and corresponding hit to book value, we view the restructuring as positive for the following reasons: 1) NIM is projected to increase at least 20 bps in 1Q12 (vs. 3Q11) to 2.17% or higher as a result of the transaction; 2) The company does not expect the restructuring to affect its dividend strategy, which is to pay 40-60% of earnings ($0.08 quarterly dividend for a 5% yield); 3) Bank level regulatory capital is also unaffected and appears strong; and 4) We are raising our full-year 2012 EPS estimate to $0.70 from $0.61."
