Things for Clearwire (CLWR) Could Get Interesting on Feb. 5th, 2012

On that date, Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) could sees some serious action. Following the Class A and Class B common offering on December 13th, providing the company with something like $715.5 million in extra liquidity, trading might get pretty volatile.
Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), now with exposure of about 18.2 percent to Clearwire, holding the equivalent of 94,076,878 Class A common shares, will have it's lock-up period expire then. Also, Sprint, with exposure of 48.6 percent of Clearwire, will have its lock-up agreement expire then.
Will both companies, who have been large shareholders in the past of Clearwire, sell stakes then? Probably not. Sprint and Intel are more interested in developing 4G technology than anything else. Sprint alone invested an additional $333 million for its increased stake, through the purchase of 173.64 million Class B shares in the offering.
Either way, keep your eyes peeled to see what develops for Clearwire over the next two months.
Shares of Clearwire are down about 1 percent on the session. Sprint is down 0.7 percent, and Intel is up just 0.2 percent.
