Deutsche Bank is out defending Inhibitex (NASDAQ: INHX), which is under heavy pressure following lab abnormalities for Pharmasset's (Nasdaq: VRUS) PSI-938.
Investors are concerned about similarities between VRUS's drug and INHX's INX189.
On the similarities, the firm notes both are purines and guianosies.
On the difference, the firm notes this is a fluro on the sugar of 938, versus none on INX189. The company says the metabolites and triphosphates will be different. For 7977 there is also a fluro..but it is on the urindine not the guanosine.
The firm said while there are similarities, there are many differences. "What goes into the liver are different for 189 and 938 and safety are likely to be different."
