Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) Investment Management, Inc., which together with its affiliates is a longtime and significant shareholder of Thoratec Corporation (Nasdaq: THOR), has sent a letter to Thoratec's Board of Directors stating Oracle's belief that Thoratec will be unable to maximize shareholder value as an independent public company and urging the Board to retain an investment bank to conduct an auction to find a suitable acquirer for Thoratec.
