Brean Murray Carret & Co. downgraded Pharmasset (NASDAQ: VRUS) from Buy to Hold.

Brean analyst says, "Gilead's decision to acquire Pharmasset for its pipeline of nucleotide analogs in development for Hep C carries risk, but can potentially be a big win for the company that has made a name by dominating market share in HIV and Hep B. We believe VRUS is a near-perfect fit for the company that revolutionized the use of nuc combo therapy in viral infections. Given the premium, we believe it is unlikely that another player will come to the table with a higher offer."
