Clean Energy Stocks Gaining Momentum Amid Introduction of 'New Alternative Transportation Solutions Act' (CLNE) (FSYS) (WPRT)

November 15, 2011 3:06 PM EST
After trading relatively calmly for the majority of Tuesday's session, shares of a number of clean energy stocks are ramping into the close.

Traders are attributing some of the strength to news Senators Robert Menendez and Richard Burr, as well as Harry Reid, have introduced the New Alternative Transportation to Give American Solutions Act of 2011. The measure would effectively "raise domestic production of vehicles which run on clean natural gas," according to Robert Menendez's website.

Also possibly drawing attention to the sector this afternoon, Chevron (NYSE: CVX) shares are now down 2.3 percent following reports the oil spill off the coast of Brazil may be far worse than expected.

Some stocks being tracked closely this afternoon: Clean Energy (Nasdaq: CLNE), Fuel Systems Solutions (Nasdaq: FSYS) and Wesport Innovations (Nasdaq: WPRT), just to name a few.
