Global Hunter Securities initiates coverage on Furiex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: FURX) with a Buy. PT $18.00.

Global analyst says, "The company’s business model is to enter into licensing agreements with larger partners following completion of clinical proof of concept studies. FURX's most advanced partnered program is Nesina, a DPP-4 inhibitor for type 2 diabetes, licensed to Takeda. Nesina is approved in Japan and has a 1Q12 PDUFA date in the U.S. Other pipeline drugs include a small molecule modulator of the mu and delta opioid receptors called MuDelta, for irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-d); a novel statin, PPD-10558, for dyslipidemia patients who experience statin-associated myalgia; and JNJ-Q2, a novel fluoroquinolone antibiotic, for community acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI). Finally, the company receives royalties on worldwide sales of J&J's (NYSE: JNJ) Priligy, for premature ejaculation. Priligy is approved in Europe and certain Asian and Latin American countries. We believe the depth of FURX’s pipeline and the company’s prior experience as a contractor for the pharmaceutical industry combine to create a promising long-term story."
