RealD (RLD) Shares Down Again as 'Several Others' May Also Stop Paying for 3D Glasses

September 29, 2011 1:13 PM EDT
Shares of RealD (NYSE: RLD) are continuing lower Thursday following a more than 14 percent plunge on Wednesday amid rumors Sony (NYSE: SNE) said it will stop paying theaters for 3D glasses. The stock is down 7.8 percent to $9.61 at last check.

This morning the rumors are coming from the LA Times. A source has said 20th Century Fox, as well as "several others," are hoping Sony will make the decision so as to make the decision easier for themselves.

The LA Times notes using 3D glasses for a film potentially adds about $10 million in costs for the producer.
