Brean Murray Carret & Co. maintains a 'Sell' on Vivus (NASDAQ: VVUS) price target of $2.00.

Brean analyst says, "Yesterday after the markets closed, competitor Orexigen (Nasdaq: OREX) released that it received clarity from the FDA on a path forward for obesity drug Contrave...What we don't understand, is why Vivus stock reacted positively in the response to this news. For Vivus, we view the news as largely irrelevant. What sounds conceivably negative for Vivus is that Contrave went from basically being out of the picture to being a potential competitor, should Qnexa ever receive approval."
