United Tech (UTX) Potential 'Major Acquisition' Sends Stocks Aflutter

A number of leading multinational companies are seeing action Friday on speculation United Technologies (NYSE: UTX) is lining up financing to make a "major acquisition."

According to Reuters, United Technologies is looking for $20 billion or more in loans. Sources declined to say which company United Technologies was aiming to acquire, only that the funds were to support a major acquisition in the U.S.

UTX has a current market cap of $67 billion, with $5.4 billion of cash recorded at the end of June.

Stocks jumping today, being mentioned as possible targets, include:
  • Goodrich Corp. (NYSE: GR), which is up 3.2 percent;

  • Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL),. which is 4.5 percent stronger;

  • Textron (NYSE: TXT), up 4 percent;

  • Tyco Int'l (NYSE: TYC), 5.1 percent better; and

  • Honeywell Int'l (NYSE: HON) which is still relatively flat at 0.8 percent.
