Amarin (AMRN) IP Chief to Depart Company as AMR101 Exclusivity Still in Air

Amarin Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AMRN) shares are trading lower Friday morning following reports of a management shakeup.

According to Bloomberg, Jonathon Rowe, head of Amarin's Intellectual Property and Portfolio Strategy will be departing the company to join another pharma firm.

His announcement will most likely come next week. The exec said Amarin has hired a patent attorney who previously worked at Sanofi-Aventis (NYSE: SNY).

Investors might be a little uneasy as market exclusivity for AMR101 still remains uncertain. In an August 29th note, Monness, Crespi, Hardt said it "remains unclear whether or not Amarin will be able to establish sufficiently long market exclusivity for the drug."

Amarin's applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for AMR101 for method-of-use patents have recently been rejected two further times, possibly promptin Rowe's departure.

Shares of Amarin are down 2 percent on Friday's session.
