Expedia (EXPE) Nears Multi-Billion Spin-Off of TripAdvisor

Expedia (Nasdaq: EXPE) is nearing the $4 billion spin-off of its TripAdvisor unit.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi hinted that a delayed regulatory filing for the planned divestiture will be ready within a few weeks.
Khosrowshahi also said he's considering a little M&A to bolster TripAdvisor's search and directory business. An expansion of its core brands into South America is also on the slate.
Initial approval for the planned spin-off by Expedia's Board was made in early April.
Expedia is modestly higher ahead of the bell. Shares have seen a nice run over the last several weeks stemming from an announced collaboration with Groupon.
