Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day 06/21: (AZN)/(XRAY) (PCP)/(COL) (ORCL)

  • AstraZeneca Plc (NYSE: AZN) is said to be nearing the sale of its Asta Tech unit to Dentsply (Nasdaq: XRAY).

    The deal, which is valued at $1.8 billion, has not been formally announced, Bloomberg says, citing people familiar with the matter.

    AstraZeneca is looking to sell the unit because its not part of AstraZeneca's strategy. A sale has been sought by AstraZeneca since January, and the company was expecting about $2 billion for the unit.

    Neither has commented on the rumor, though an announcement is expected soon, says the Financial Times.

    The unit employs 2,200 and draws revs north of $500 million on average annually.

  • Precision Castparts Corp. (NYSE: PCP) has agreed to acquire the assets of the Rollmet business from Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) and, in a separate deal, has acquired KLAD Manufacturing.

    KLAD and Rollmet are being acquired for cash, and the transactions will each be immediately accretive to earnings.

  • Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) report that it has entered into an agreement for the acquisition of FatWire Software.

    Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Closing is expected in mid-2011.

    FatWire is a leading provider of web experience management solutions. The acquisition of FatWire is expected to further extend Oracle's technology and applications product offerings for customers seeking to build a unified customer experience across channels.
