Groupon, Are You Sure You Know What You're Doing? (LNKD) (RENN) (P)

As the IPOs of socially-oriented Internet companies hit the Street with a bang, only to drop like a lead balloon following initial investor euphoria, traders have to wonder if Groupon really knows what it is getting itself into.

Let's have a look at the stock performance in several of these recent IPOs:
  • LinkedIn Corporation (Nasdaq: LNKD), released on May 19, 2011, opened at $83 after pricing at $45 per share, an astonishing 84.4 percent surge. Shares closed Thursday's session at $68.27, down 8.5 percent for the session. The stock is now 17.7 percent lower from the opening price.

  • Renren Inc. (NYSE: RENN), released on May 4, opened at $19.80 after pricing at $14 per share, up about 41.4 percent. Shares fell 9.84 percent to $6.78 Thursday and is down 65.8 percent from the open.

  • Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE: P), released just Wednesday, opened 28 percent higher at $20 after pricing at $16. The closed at $13.26 this afternoon, now down 35.3 percent since the IPO opened.
