Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day 06/09: (V) (GE) (SPRD)

  • Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) reports that it has acquired Fundamo for $110 million cash.

    Closing is expected today, and is slightly dilutive to Visa’s earnings per share in its fiscal year 2011 ending September 30, 2011.

    Visa also announced a new, long-term commercial agreement with Monitise plc to expand delivery of mobile financial services to banked Visa account holders in conjunction with Visa’s financial institution partners.

    In addition, Monitise and Visa will launch a mobile banking solution in the U.S. for clients of Visa DPS, Visa’s debit and prepaid processing platform.

  • General Electric (NYSE: GE) may be looking to part ways with its $3 billion railcar leasing business.

    The business, which has $3 billion of assets, might see bids from such firms as Warburg Pincus, TPG Capital, Cereberus, and Apollo Management, sources told Reuters Thursday morning.

    Meetings between GE and the firms have taken place over the last several weeks following submission of initial offers in early May.

    Final bids are expected to be submitted by June 23, according to Reuters.

  • Spreadtrum Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPRD) today announced that it has acquired approximately 48.44% of the total outstanding shares of MobilePeak Holdings, Ltd.

    Spreadtrum intends to purchase all of MobilePeak's issued and outstanding shares, and expects to complete the acquisition in the third quarter of 2011.
