Notable ETF Movers of the Day 05/26: (EWY) (XRT) (VXX) Higher; (USO) (TAN) (UNG) Lower

Gainers

  • iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) up 1.77 percent to $63.31. Citigroup increased its outlook on South Korea's Kospi stock index, now expecting it to reach 2,350 by the end of CY11. Citi ratcheted-up earnings forecasts by 8 percent, seeing South Korea as a beneficiary as Japan works to sort the fallout from the March 11th earthquake.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.78 percent to $52.77. The ETF is being led higher today, among slumping markets, by Family Dollar Stores Inc. (NYSE: FDO). which is up 1.4 percent as Pershing Square's Bill Ackman reports that his fund holds a "passive" stake in the company. The announcement was made at the Irs Sohn conference in New York yesterday.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 0.61 percent to $22.94. Markets in limbo today, as jobless claims rose more that expected, to 424K, and the second revision of Q1 GDP kept it flat at 1.8 percent.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 0.98 percent to $39.54. Crude slipping today as U.S. data came in disappointing. As metioned, jobless claims increased to 424K, ahead of the 400K expected, and first-quarter GDP stayed flat at 1.8 percent, amid expectations for a revision to 2.2 percent. July contracts are $1.00 lower to $100.32 per barrel on the Comex.

  • Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) down 1.42 percent to $6.92. Solar shares are slumping today as famed short-seller Jim Chanos recommended to best against wind and solar stocks, notably Vestas Wind Systems and First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR). The announcement was made at yesterday's Ira Sohn conference. First Solar shares are 2.6 percent lower today.

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 2.14 percent to $10.98. Natural gas is lower today, following EIA data showing a 105 billion cubic foot increase in stores, ahead of the 90 to 94 bcf increase that economists surveyed by Dow Jones were looking for. July contracts are $0.093 lower to $4.330 per mmBtu on the Comex.
