iSuppli Believes Tablet Hype Taking a Toll on Global PC Sales (HPQ) (DELL) (AAPL)

A report just out from IHS's (NYSE: IHS) iSuppli warns "Rising Consumer Interest in iPads Stings PC Sales in Q1."

Data from the research firm Tuesday suggests "Rising consumer interest in media tablets like Apple Inc.’s iPad is beginning to take a toll on the global PC market, with shipments of desktops and notebooks in the first quarter of 2011 declining compared to the same period in 2010."

Global shipments of PC's totaled 81.3 million units last quarter, down about 0.3 percent from the 81.6 million seen during the same quarter last year.

PC sales at the top five manufacturers were:

• HP (NYSE: HPQ) - 15.37 million units, down 2.1 percent from the same quarter last year
  
• Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) - 10.46 million units, down 1.8 percent year-over-year
  
• Acer - 9.23 million units, down 20.4 percent YoY
  
• Lenovo - 8.1 million units, up 15.4 percent YoY
  
• Toshiba - 4.7 million units, up 2.6 percent YoY

Compared to the first quarter of 2010, each of the above companies shipments fell.
