Dick's (DKS) Sees Pressure Following Q1 Results as Muted Growth Expected

Dick's (NYSE: DKS) shares are lower ahead of the bell Tuesday following first-quarter earnings results from the Coraopolis, PA-based sporting-goods retailer.

Net income in the quarter popped 43 percent from $26.209 million to $37.498 million, or $0.30 per diluted share.

Revenue of $1.114 billion was 6.3 percent better than the $1.048 billion reported in the first quarter of 2010.

Comparable-store sales increased 2.1 percent.

Analysts had been seeking EPS of $0.29 and revs of $1.14 billion.

Dick's added three stores to its network through the quarter, bringing the total to 528.

Dick's cut its comparable-store growth outlook when compared with 2010, from 7.4 percent to only 3 percent. EPS for 2011 are expected to be $1.91 - $1.93, missing consensus estimates of $1.94.

Next quarter, EPS are expected to be $0.47 - $0.49, versus consensus EPS of $0.40. Growth is expected to be muted on a year-over-year basis, with the company aiming for 3 percent versus 5.7 percent last year.

Dick's shares are down 1.7 percent pre-market.
