Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Investors Cash Out Following Q1 Results; Macau Still Promising

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) shares are plummeting after-hours Tuesday following first-quarter earnings from the casino and resort operator.

Net income in the quarter was $228.2 million, or $0.28 per share, a swing into positive territory from a loss of $28.9 million reported for the same period last year. On an adjusted basis, EPS were $0.37 for the quarter.

Revenue in the quarter increased 58.2 percent from $1.33 billion to $2.11 billion.

Analysts on the Street were looking for EPS of $0.44 and revs of $2.14 billion.

Sands China Ltd. reported GAAP revenue of $1.16 billion with net income of $262.1 million, compared with sales of $945.8 million and net income of $113.3 million in the first quarter of 2010.

The company's operations in Las Vegas saw a 7.7 percent decline in sales to $305.1 million. Operating income in the quarter slumped 24.2 percent to $31.3 million.

Las Vegas Sands shares are over 12 percent lower in post-market trade.
