Brean Murray Carret & Co. is reiterating its Sell rating and $2 price target on shares of Vivus (NASDAQ: VVUS) following a quarter with absolutely no revenue.

While the company did convince the FDA that there may potentially be enough data in existing electronic healthcare database to see if such data support or reject the safety of Qnexa with respect to birth defects, the firm notes that this is now indication if Vivus success in performing a convincing retrospective analysis of the data.

The company reported its Q1 results with no revenue and an EPS loss of $0.12, which the firm comments are not material at this time.

The NDA filing for avanfil is scheduled for Q2, which positions Vivus for a Q1:12 approval.
