Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/06: (EWT) (USO) (SMH) Higher; (EWJ) (UNG) (MOO) Lowe

  • iShares MSCI Taiwan Index (NYSE: EWT) up 2.05 percent to $15.44. Taiwan stocks seeing a little bit of a surge, due in part to the interest rate hike in China, and potential for more spending from Japan as they look to recover following the March 11th earthquake. Automakers in Taiwan are expected to benefit as China boosts its interest rate, making imports from the island nation cheaper.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 0.81 percent to $43.45. Crude inventories increased today, by about 1.95 million barrels to 357.7 million barrels. Consensus was looking for an increase of 1.6 million barrels. On Tuesday, the American Petroleum Institute reported a 2.8 million barrel draw. WTI crude May 11 contracts are up $0.34 to $108.68 per barrel on the Comex, as trader keep their eyes on the Middle East and North Africa, looking for tensions to ease, and crude to flow.

  • Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) up 0.81 percent to $34.90. Though not the heaviest-weighted holding in the ETF, Broadcom is pushing it higher following an upgrade by D.A. Davidson to Buy and Oppenheimer to Outperform. Broadcom stock is up 3.9 percent at mid-day.

  • iShares MSCI Japan Index (NYSE: EWJ) down 0.90 percent to $9.87. Overall, continued dire news from Japan is causing investors to maintain their bearish stance. Japan began dumping radioactive water inth the Pacific over the weekend, and has since apologized to neighbor South Korea. Notably, Hitachi (NYSE: HIT) said today that its profit will likely continue to deteroriate as Japan's earthquake damaged company plants and crimped parts supplies. Hitachi President Hiroaki Nakanishi said that he was unable to give specific figures of the loss. Hitachi shares are 1.3 percent lower today.

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 1.35 percent to $10.93. Though weather is warminig, increasing the potential for nat gas to be used in energy consumption as A/C is clicked on, supplies are preventing any upward movement in prices. May 11 contracts are down $0.056 to $4.175 per mmBtu on the Comex.

  • Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF (NYSE: MOO) down 1.38 percent to $56.50. Led by Monsanto (NYSE: MON) today, which is 4.2 percent lower following second-quarter 2011 earnings from the agriculture stock. Monsanto reported adjusted EPS of $1.87 and revs of $4.13 billion. Investors may have been paying attention to Monsanto's FY11 EPS outlook, which they reaffirmed rather than boosting. The Company increased its free cash flow outlook to a range of $900 million to $1.1 billion.
