Ticonderoga maintains a 'Buy' on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), PT $550.
Ticonderoga analyst says, "This morning, Apple confirmed the launch of the iPad 2 in 25 additional countries this Friday and inline with the company's prior comments, while Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and other countries are slated for an April launch. The 25 countries include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K."
"We just attended a media event with Samsung and the company announced a new 8.9 inch Galaxy Tab and provided further details surrounding the 10.1 inch Galaxy Tab that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February. These two new tablet devices will also be available with HSPA+ connections. Keep in mind, the 7 inch version was launched last September. The 8.9 inch Tab will weigh just 470 grams and be 8.6 mm thin, while including a dual core processor, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and Corning's (NYSE: GLW)(Sell) Gorilla glass. For the first time, pricing and availability was discussed for the 10.1 inch Wi-Fi tablet that will be available on June 8th at a price of $499 for 16GB and $599 for 32GB. The new 8.9 inch Wi-Fi version is expected early this summer at $469 for 16GB and $569 for 32GB. While we were disappointed with the 7 inch Galaxy Tab, we believe the 10.1 inch and 8.9 inch versions could eventually become some of the more successful non-Apple tablets in our view. The Samsung 10 inch Galaxy Tab will be available a couple of months later than we had expected, providing Apple with more time to gain momentum with the iPad 2 launch. As such, we expect Apple to remain the leader in the tablet category, with Samsung being one of the leading non-Apple tablet vendors."
