Notable ETF Movers of the Day 02/28: (UNG) (IYR) (FXE) Higher; (VXX) (EWY) (USO) Lower

Gainers

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 1.54% to $5.44. Forecasts calling for chillier temps on the West Coast through the Northwest and Upper Midwest next week are sending nat gas futures higher on anticipation of increased demand. April 11 contracts are trading $0.077/mmBtu stronger to $4.082/mmBtu.

  • iShares Dow Jones US Real Estate (NYSE: IYR) up 1.37% to $60.15. Ventas (NYSE: VTR) today announced a deal to acquire Nationwide Health Properties, Inc. (NYSE: NHP). Also data showed a 2.8% drop in pending home sales, narrower than the analyst expectation for a 3% drop. The ETF is being led by Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), which is up 2.6% this afternoon.

  • CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSE: FXE) up 0.33% to $137.43. Higher today following positive economic data from the U.S. that is risk-on for investors. Many are betting that a continued U.S. recovery will push euro yields up later in the year, as the ECB weighs a rate hike.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 3.90% to $30.28. Continuing to drop following a run up to $35 per share as fears of an oil supply crimp are eased, and positive economic data out of the U.S. is causing investors to take their money out of safer havens and put it back to work in the markets. The CBOE VIX near-term indicator is down nearly 3% today.

  • iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) down 0.52% to $57.98. Closing lower on Middle East tensions and threats from Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) following a South Korean-U.S. military drill over the weekend. One report has 224.3 billion won worth of stock Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) solid by foreigners.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 0.88% to $39.33. The Middle East and North Africa are still in focus as Libya is continuing to export oil amid calls to oust leader Moammar Gadhafi. OPEC last week also said that they would ramp up production to compensate for any lost exports out of the North African nation.
