According to research from Thompson Reuters the most popular stocks among analysts include some of the Street's biggest names, but perhaps it is the ones analysts hate that investors should turn to.
Among the top picks among analyst for 2011 include Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE: TMO), Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A), Haliburton (NYSE: HAL) and Compuware (NASDAQ: CPWR).
A report from the Wall Street Journal on Thursday noted that the top 10 stocks heading into 2010 returned 22 percent, which outpaced the 13 percent gain for the S&P 500 last year.
However, the most hated stocks going into 2010 returned an astonishing 70 percent. These names included Sears Holdings (NASDAQ: SHLD), which doubled last year, and Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F).
So if the same pattern follows, perhaps investors should look to some of the stocks not seeing any love heading into 2011.
These names include Sears (again), American International Group Inc. (NYSE: AIG), Cincinnati Financial (NASDAQ: CINF), Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.B), Nicor (NYSE: GAS), Diamond Offshore Drilling (NYSE: DO) and Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY).
