Airline stocks are showing some weakness today as the U.S. State Department issued an alert to U.S. travelers of the continuing threat of al-Qaida attacks on Sunday.
An intelligence bulletin from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI noted that al-Qaida still wanted to attack the U.S., but there were no specific plans to do so.
Airlines and travel booking websites are lower today amid the warnings. The airlines responded that the warnings will not affect their schedules to and from the U.S. and Europe.
Travel sites lower today include: Orbitz Worldwide (NYSE: OWW), priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN), and Expedia (Nasdaq: EXPE).
Airlines are being led by JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR), Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK), United Continental (NYSE: UAL), and Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL)
