Wall Street Hubbub 9/21: iStar Plunges On BK Report, Boston Sci. Sees Action On Takeover Talk, 20% of Hedge Funds Could Liquidate

Rumors breed on Wall Street. Below is a review of some talk on the Street today:
- iStar Financial (NYSE: SFI) plunged 16% today on reports from Bloomberg the company may be considering a pre-packaged bankruptcy filing in 2011.
- Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) traded higher today on heavy volume on rumors the company could be the target of a takeover bid. Shares are up 1.5% currently.
- Netezza Corporation (NYSE: NZ) is lower today, but still above IBM's $27 takeover offer on speculation of a bidding war. Shares last traded at $28.
- BofA/Merrill Lynch said 20 percent of hedge funds globally may be liquidated by the first quarter.
- After rising 7.5% yesterday, Teradata (NYSE: TDC) is up another 1% today on speculation the company could be "in play" following yesterday's takeover of Netezza.
- Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX) rose slightly today on reports the company's held failed buyout talks with TPG and Silver Lake. The talks will unlikely restart. Shares are up 1%. Western Digital (NYSE: WDC) also saw slight interest on the report. Rising 0.3%.
- Other stocks that were the subject of unsubstantiated takeover talk today were: BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT), Edwards Lifesciences Corp (NYSE: EW), Infinera Corp. (Nasdaq: INFN), LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK), and Plains Exploration and Product (NYSE: PXP).
