For-Profit Schools Crushed On Loan Repayment Report (COCO, STRA, CPLA, APOL)

Shares of for-profit education stocks are under heavy pressure today after the Dept of Education listed the fiscal 2009 loan repayment rates, which showed that a number of them are in danger of running afoul of a proposed gainful employment Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.

Corinthian Colleges (Nasdaq: COCO), Strayer (Nasdaq: STRA), Washington Post Co.'s (NYSE: WPO) Kaplan and ITT Educational Services Inc. (NYSE: ITT) were among the lowest performers.

Universal Technical Institute Inc. (NYSE: UTI), Grand Canyon Education Inc. (Nasdaq: LOPE), American Public Education Inc. (Nasdaq: APEI) and Bridgepoint Education Inc. (NYSE: BPI) had repayment rates above the 45% threshold.
