Every day Wall Street is packed with more rumors and scuttlebutt than you can pack into a Boeing 747. Below is some of the best talk going around trading desks today.

  • All eyes are on Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), which reports earnings tomorrow before the open. Last week's SEC settlement boosted the shares but now they are losing steam again. This quarter is expected to be very weak for Goldman, but analysts have taken down numbers significantly all quarter, creating an opportunity for upside. If they miss the lowered numbers, more downside could be seen.

  • Quicksilver Resources (NYSE: KWK) is jumping 14 percent higher on rumors India-based Reliance Industries it in talks that could lead to an acquisition of the U.S.-based shale gas company.

  • Should Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) use its $30 billion, or $93 per share, in cash to buyback stock? According to one firm - YES! Benchmark said it is time the company "return capital to shareholders."

  • Analysts at UBS said Elec-Tech plans to sign a large purchase order for 100 of Veeco's (Nasdaq: VECO) MOCVD reactors in 3Q10 with 70 for its Wuhu, China factory and 30 for its Yangzhou, China factory. VECO is up 2.4 percent, but well off the highs.

  • Tomkins plc (NYSE: TKS) soared 27 percent after the company confirmed a proposal from a consortium comprising the Onex Corporation and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to acquire the Company at 325 pence, in cash, per Tomkins share.

  • After BP (NYSE: BP) successfully stopped the Gulf oil well last week, pressure inside the well is rising and the government is concerned about a seep near the plugged well. The company may have to re-open the well and resume containment efforts as it waits for the relief well to be complete.

  • Has Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) lost it mojo after the recent iPhone 4 fiasco? CEO Steve Jobs defended the device and offered free bumpers Friday to users, but a hiccup for this "priced to perfection" stock is not looked upon kindly by investors. The company reports third quarter earnings results on Tuesday after the bell, giving the company the opportunity to show how great it is.
