Goldman Sachs put together a list of winners and lowers from the rise of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad and other tablet computers.

Winners:

  • Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) - leadership position with the iPad and corresponding profit pool
  • ARM Holdings plc (Nasdaq: ARMH) - expects most tablets to be designed with low-power, ARM-based chips
  • iPad component vendors - Samsung, Infineon (NYSE: IFX), Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM), Linear (Nasdaq: LLTC)
  • Secondary winners - Hon Hai, Murata, Citrix (Nasdaq: CTRX), Lam (Nasdaq: LRCX), Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM), SanDisk (Nasdaq: SNDK), SBA Comm. (Nasddaq: SBAC), Crown Castle (NYSE: CCI), Syniverse (NYSE: SVR), media companies, SaaS apps, CDNs.


Losers:

  • Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) - due to imapct on lost Windows sales and its lack of a competitive tablet response
  • Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and AMD (NYSE: AMD) - suffer lost unit volumes to ARM-based competitors
  • HDD makers, Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL), LSI (NYSE: LSI) - move to solid state storage from hard drives in tablets
  • Secondary losers: Micron (NYSE: MU), Acer, ASUSTeK, Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS), RadioShack (NYSE: RSH), Best Buy (NYSE: BBY)
