FactSet (FDS) Reports Modest Rise in Q3 Sales, Earnings; Q4 Guidance Looks Solid

FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) said Tuesday that growth in its financial research and analytics services helped the company report a slight rise in quarterly net income.

The provider of global financial and economic information returned fiscal third-quarter earnings of $38.7 million or 81 cents per share, slightly better than the $38.5 million or 79 cents per share earned in the same quarter last year. Excluding one-time items, FactSet earned 78 cents per share in the quarter, a penny better than the 77 cents expected by analysts.

The company’s revenue rose 4 percent in the three month period ended May 31 to $160.3 million from $154.39 million in the year-ago quarter. The Street was looking for revenue of $160.28 million from FactSet. The company’s client count was up roughly 1 percent at the end of the quarter to 2,075.

"We are pleased with our progress this quarter as we've delivered solid growth across all our key metrics," explains Philip A. Hadley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our hard work and the investments we've made during the downturn are beginning to show results, just as the health of our clients has begun to improve."

Looking forward, FactSet is forecasting fourth-quarter earnings in the range of 78 cents to 80 cents on sales of $165 million to $169 million, compared to the market consensus of $162.60 million and 78 cents per share, respectively.

Shares of FactSet are up 3.26 percent to $71.33 today.
