Although the stock held up in both the after-hours and pre-market sessions, shares of XenoPort (Nasdaq: XNPT) are now getting smashed, currently down 8% to $8.32.

Today traders are responding to better-than-expected Q4 results last night and the ensuing analyst reaction this morning.

One analyst (at Ladenburg Thalmann) defended XenoPort shares following its recent plunge amid FDA concerns related to Horizant and upgraded the stock to Neutral this morning. On the other side of the trade, an analyst at Lazard reiterated the firm's Sell rating following the earnings and also lowered the stock's price target from $10 to $6.

While the above news items could certainly be moving the stock today, the move lower may simply be the result of profit-taking from traders who jumped in after Thursday's sharp decline; the stock jumped more than 25% on Friday and then another 8% yesterday.

XenoPort, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, focuses on developing internally discovered product candidates that utilize the body’s natural nutrient transport mechanisms to enhance the therapeutic benefits of drugs.
