In a note today, Thompson Research Group's Kathryn Thompson said that attendance at the 2010 Florida RV Super Show in Tampa, FL, reached 50,000 for the first time ever. She continued that dealer sentiment was more positive as attendees were more willing to buy, and sales are expected to be up 150% from a year ago.
As a result, shares of Winnebago (NYSE: WGO) shot up 8.67% today, to $12.78, Thor Industries (NYSE: THO) is up 1.19% to $31.40, and Drew Industries (NYSE: DW) is currently trading 2.01% higher to $20.85.
Thompson said that inventory levels were at historically low levels, and the price of used RV's went up 1% after several months of declining prices.
Financing trends are showing significant improvement as well, Thompson said.
After years of sluggish sales, due in part to the recent recession and rising oil prices, the news out of Thompson Research Group is certainly welcome.
An uptrend has also been noticed by Lance Wilson, executive director of the Florida RV Trade Association. Wilson says that "the trend probably was one of a very positive attitude from the consumers. They weren't complaining about gas prices or the economy in general and mostly had a positive attitude and were interested and invested in the RV business. We have a very positive outlook about what's going to happen in the RV industry. The American public is so interested, and the RV lifestyle is so ingrained in the American public, we feel like we're going to start that slow steady growth that will be healthy for the industry."
