On January 14, 2010, Casey's General Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: CASY) reported December 2009 same-store sales results for stores open for one full year.
Same store gasoline gallons sold decreased 0.8% in December 2009 compared to December 2008. The gasoline margin was above the Company's fiscal 2010 goal of 11.0 cents per gallon. The average retail price of gasoline sold during December 2009 was $2.47 per gallon. Same-store sales for prepared food and fountain increased 4.4%, and grocery and other merchandise increased 1.6% in December 2009 compared to December 2008. The impact from the recent federal excise tax increase on cigarettes was approximately 3.0% of grocery and other merchandise sales.
