ABI Research Reports $4B Mobile Security Market for 2014 (MFE, SYMC, WBSN)

January 14, 2010 10:04 AM EST
ABI Research releasesd research today stating that the mobile security market is to exceed $4 billion in revenues by 2014.

The firm sees strong demand for data security, and sees security software increasing five-fold over the next five years.

Some of the reasons cited include:
  • Lost mobile phones that are enterprise supplied;

  • Organizations with financial and healthcare data have to comply with regulatory requirements related to the information of clients that they have.

The concern comes as smartphones are able to handle more sensitive information every year. Spyware and malware has been a problem with mobile handsets in the past as well.

ABI expects that larger enterprises will buy mobile device management platforms to use within their IT departments, and smaller enterprises or even consumers will use managed security services, as wireless carriers increasingly offer security services to their customers.

Companies to watch on the report include:
  • Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC);

  • McAfee (NYSE: MFE); and

  • Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN).
