Unilever (UL) Annouces Total Recall of Slim-Fast Cans

Unilever United States, Inc. (NYSE: UL) is conducting a nationwide recall of of its ready to drink Slim-Fast products in a can, due to a possible contamination with Bacillus ceres, a micro-organism that can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

Rita Chappelle of the FDA said that the recall will affect 10 million cans of the popular diet meal supplement.

Unilever is working to correct the production problem that caused the contamination and is currently conducting an investigation of the company’s production facility in Covington, Tennessee.

All cans of Slim-Fast are being recalled, regardless of the expiration date, flavor or UPC. The company is offering a refund for any consumer that has purchased a possible hazardous product.

Shares of Unilever closed at $30.63 on Friday.
