Rupert Murdoch, Murdoch Rupert...any way you say it, he's still the News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) Chief, and he calls the shots. This time, informants close to the source say that the rumors that Murdoch will take his company off of Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) search results and strike a deal with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) are overblown.
Microsoft would love this, and were going to reportedly offer money to have the deal happen, the sources also stated.
Many newspaper owners resent searches like Google and Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) because they take make money from advertisements that are displayed next to news search results.
Murdoch commented on Tuesday that the Wall Street Journal had one million paying subscribers, though he didn't go into specifics if that were paper subscribers or just online subscribers.
Rupert also mentioned that he believes that people will pay for good news, and thought that websites that offer "wholesale misappropriation" were not "investing in journalism," but "feeding off the hard-earned efforts and investments of others."
