Shares of MasterCard (MA) Fall as Q1 Results Disappoint

After initially trading higher following its Q1 results, shares of MasterCard (NYSE: MA) are now sinking in this morning's pre-market session. The stock most recently traded at $172.50, down about 6%, or $10.60 from yesterday's closing price.

MasterCard reported Q1 EPS of $2.80, beating analyst estimates by 20 cents, but slightly missing on the $1.2 billion sales number. With the initial release, MasterCard also said gross dollar and purchase volume rose by 0.3% during the quarter, while processed transactions rose 5.8% to $5.1 billion.

Today's action follows earnings out of Visa (NYSE: V) yesterday. Shares of Visa finished yesterday up about 2.2% from Wednesday's close.
