Analysts at Pali Research commented on the recent 10b5-1 filing by Toll Brothers Inc. (NYSE: TOL) Chairman and CEO, Robert Toll, to sell as many as 3 million shares of the company stock. The firm notes that Mr. Toll showed tremendous timing ability in 2005, selling more than a half billion dollars worth of TOL stock near the peak.
The firm said while the size of these proposed sales pale in comparison to prior sales, they hold significance. First, the new plan indicates that it is highly unlikely there is a sale of Toll Brothers anytime in the foreseeable future. Second, the plans suggests Mr. Toll is not particularly optimistic regarding a turn in the company's business anytime soon.
Pali said the filing reinforces their thought process that the business will not improve in 2009.
