Shares of Ciena (Nasdaq: CIEN) are up 14% today after reporting strong Q1 results.
Ciena reported Q1 earnings of $0.47 per share, ex-items, above the consensus of $0.40. Revenues rose 38% to $227.4 million, versus the consensus of $225.6 million.
Ciena is benefiting from strong demand for video and data telecommunications products. In the quarter, the company announced contract wins from BT, AT&T and ENERGIE AG among others.
Commenting on its outlook the company said, "Inclusive of revenue expected from our recently closed acquisition of World Wide Packets, we anticipate current demand trends will enable us to deliver annual revenue growth in a range, up to 27 percent in fiscal 2008." [lj]
