Henry Blodget at Silicon Alley Insider discusses a rumor that Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) could buy content-delivery-network Limelight Networks (Nasdaq: LLNW).
Blodget said his source has heard this rumor twice in recent days from independent sources.
Blodet contends, that while a deal between the two would seem odd, Microsoft could buy the company to gain ground on Google (Nasdaq: GOOG). Blodet said Google has been built around "cloud computing", where computing moves away from PC and individual severs to a cloud of computers. Microsoft wants to shift more into "cloud computing", and a buyout of Limelight could help with this strategy.
Shares of Limelight Networks are up 13% today on the speculation.
