Brookdale appoints Nick Stengle as CEO effective October 6

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) announced Nick Stengle will become chief executive officer and join the board of directors on October 6, 2025. Stengle will succeed Denise W. Warren, who served as interim CEO since April 2025 and will return to her role as non-executive chairman.

Stengle currently serves as president and chief operating officer of Gentiva, a hospice, palliative and home health services provider with over 12,000 employees and approximately 550 locations across 38 states. He previously held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer at Sunrise Senior Living, where he oversaw operations for approximately 250 communities serving over 20,000 residents.

The new CEO brings experience from various industries including an 11-year career with the United States Air Force, where he served as a fighter pilot and held leadership positions. His background also includes roles at TPG Capital, HMSHost International, Marriott International and Boston Consulting Group.

Warren stated the appointment follows a comprehensive search led by the board's search committee. "His impressive track record of driving durable operational performance while building a culture of teamwork, excellence, and accountability uniquely positions him to ensure the Company thrives," Warren said in the press release.

Stengle holds an MBA from Touro University and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy. With his addition, Brookdale's board will consist of nine directors, eight of whom are independent.

Brookdale operates 623 communities across 41 states with capacity to serve approximately 57,000 residents as of September 30, 2025. The company provides independent living, assisted living, memory care and continuing care retirement communities.
