The analyst comments "We are assuming coverage with a Buy rating and $50 price target. Our Buy rating is based on our conviction that ALG-000184 has the potential to become the new standard-of-care (SoC) for chronic suppression of hepatitis B virus (HBV), while also serving as the oral backbone to future functional cure regimens. Aligos’ differentiated capsid assembly modulator (CAM-E) has demonstrated best-in-class monotherapy data with 100% of patients achieving HBV DNA <10 IU/mL at 96 weeks, coupled with meaningful reductions in key biomarkers such as HBcrAg, HBeAg, and HBsAg — a virologic profile unmatched by prior CAMs, in our view. With a clear regulatory path, broad patient applicability, and first-in-class pharmacokinetics, we believe ALG-000184 is positioned to displace nucleos(t)ide analogs (NUCs) as the foundation of chronic HBV infection (CHB) management. Beyond HBV, Aligos’ may attract a robust partnership with ALG-055009, a thyroid hormone receptor-beta (THR-β) agonist with Phase 2a clinical data that we believe support a best-in-class profile in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).
