BMO Capital analyst Jeffrey Silber reiterated a Market Perform rating and $531.00 price target on Moody's Corp (NYSE: MCO).
The analyst commented: "Strong Secular MIS Drivers; We held an investor call with Michael West, President of Moody's Investor Services and Shivani Kak, Head of IR. The focus revolved around MIS and management's conviction in driving growth following the robust activity in 2024. While comps are tough, there are several wildcards including M&A, spread fluctuations, private credit-related and others.
Debt issuance in recent years has been volatile, with record years in 2020 and 2021 (low interest rates, stimulus) followed by declines in 2022. Issuance rebounded in 2023, and more specifically 2024. While there may be some volatility, management cited long-term secular trends including: maturity walls (increased since 2024); private credit (many revenue opportunities as these instruments are moved off existing balance sheets and repackaged/securitized); transition finance (e.g., energy transition); digital infrastructure finance (e.g., data centers) and emerging markets."
