Southern Co. (SO) Tops Q4 EPS by 5c

Southern Co. (NYSE: SO) reported Q4 EPS of $0.51, $0.05 better than the analyst estimate of $0.46.

Excluding the items described in the "Net Income – Excluding Items"

• Southern Company earned $509 million, or 51 cents per share, during the fourth quarter of 2017, compared with $295 million, or 30 cents per share, during the fourth quarter of 2016.
• For the full-year 2017, excluding these items, Southern Company earned $3.02 billion, or $3.02 per share, compared with earnings of $2.76 billion, or $2.90 per share, in 2016.
