Aspen Insurance (AHL) Tops Q4 EPS by 42c

Aspen Insurance (NYSE: AHL) reported Q4 EPS of ($3.14), $0.42 better than the analyst estimate of ($3.56).

• Net loss after tax of $(184.9) million, or $(3.25) per diluted ordinary share, in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with net loss of $(71.5) million, or $(1.41) per diluted ordinary share, in the fourth quarter of 2016.
• Net income included $14.8 million of net realized and unrealized investment gains in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with $(58.1) million net realized and unrealized investment losses in the fourth quarter of 2016.
• Operating loss after tax of $(178.1) million, or $(3.14) per diluted ordinary share, in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with operating loss of $(7.4) million, or $(0.34) per diluted ordinary share, in the fourth quarter of 2016
