President Obama's 2010 health care plan had a major victory today after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law in a 5-4 vote.
The Court ruled that individual mandate, which requires most Americans to buy health insurance or pay a fine, is constitutional as a tax. Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts provided the key vote.
Hospital stocks are moving higher on the news. Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC) is up 10 percent, Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CYH) is up 8 percent, Health Management Associates Inc. (NYSE: HMA) is up 5 percent.
Health care plan stocks are lower. WellPoint Inc. (NYSE: WLP) is down 4 percent and Unitedhealth Group, Inc. (NYSE: UNH) is down 1 percent.
