European shares rise after US, euro zone inflation prints May 31, 2024 10:00AM

(Reuters) - European shares climbed on Friday after softer U.S. inflation data spurred hopes of interest rates cuts by the Federal Reserve, while June rate cut bets for euro zone remained intact despite hotter-than-expected inflation print from the region.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was up 0.3%, led by advances in utilities that rose 0.7%.

April PCE inflation not too hot, or cool May 31, 2024 09:08AM

(Reuters) - U.S. inflation tracked sideways in April, a worrying sign for the U.S. central bank that suggests the elevated pace of price increases could last longer than expected and casts doubt on how soon it will be able to cut interest rates.

The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index increased 0.3% last month, the Commerce Department said on Friday, matching the unrevised gain in March.

Blinken says Washington approved use of US weapons by Ukraine inside Russia May 31, 2024 09:41AM
